Wildfire on Parnitha Mt: Investigation Points to Power Cables
A significant wildfire broke out at Mavrovouni on Parnitha Mountain, located in northern Athens, at 11:30 AM on Thursday, marking the first wildfire in Attica in 2026. Civil protection authorities quickly identified the fire's origin in a remote and inaccessible part of the forest. Despite the challenging location, the prompt response of local firefighting teams ensured that the blaze was contained swiftly.
Initial investigations by the authorities suggest that the fire may have been caused by power cables located in the forest. This theory is currently under scrutiny as investigators gather more evidence to determine the exact cause.
